The claim on Wikipedia that Hausa people constitute 20% population of Nigeria is wrong.
It is exaggerated. 20% of 200 million Nigerians will be 40 million Hausa. The actual population of Hausa speakers world wide is around 38 to 39 million.
In Nigeria Hausa speakers are just around 25 to 28 million and more than half of that are not Hausa but people, like myself a Nupe man, who speaks Hausa as a Lingua Franca.
This demographic misinformation about the Hausas similarly applies to the Yorubas and Igbos too. Their true populations are far less than the precipitously high figures published on Wikipedia and other unreliable platforms by their particular ethnic hegemonists.
Wikipedia is often times a beer parlour bar where functionally uninformed illiterates or half-baked literati with hidden agendas go to post or edit disinformation or misinformation.
That is why no peer-review journal will accept a quote or reference with Wikipedia as the source.
